The SILON product Sofisil® polyester fibre became Prize Winner in the international round of the the Quality Innovation Award 2020 in the category “Circular economy and carbon neutrality innovations.”

The newly developed polyester fibre Sofisil® www.sofisil.eu contributes to the sustainability of natural resources, to the protection of the environment, and improves the lives of people in coastal areas where plastic waste accumulates in large quantities. The fibre is made from PET bottles collected by inhabitants of third-world countries on the shores of the seas and oceans.

In 2020, a total of 416 innovations took part in the competition in the international round and the top 25 were awarded. Companies from the Czech Republic were participating in the international round for only the eighth time. Last year was the most successful in history for the Czech Republic.
