SILON HISTORY
and Otto Wichterle

SILON owes its origin to the world-known Czech scientist and inventor Otto Wichterle, who became especially famous for the invention that led to the fundamental improvement of contact lenses and their worldwide spread.

Otto Wichterle also made history with the development of a technological process for the production of polyamide fibre called SILON. The name SILON was also given to a new company that has been one of the world's polymer processors since its foundation in 1950. 

Our company has come a long way since its inception through several transformations, but the tradition of plastic production has remained. Since 2022, it has specialized in filled polymer compounds and compounds based on polyethylene and polypropylene.
